Debbie Harvey’s career in Housing started as a part-time Customer Services Administrator at Drum in January 2000. At the time, Debbie enjoyed the work-life balance this afforded, as she had family commitments but in 2001 this changed when she was successfully appointed the full-time Customer Services Manager, responsible for the smooth running of a one-stop shop Customer Service team.
“In late 2003 I took up a 3-year secondment to the post of Community Liaison Co-ordinator working solely with the residents involved in the REEMA regeneration project in Petersfield. During the secondment, I transferred permanently to the Development team in the post of Project Manager and in 2007 became a Senior Project Manager.
Back in early 2003, I was encouraged by Drum to undertake the 1-year Housing Graduate Conversion Course (GCC) at Southampton Solent University. Having passed the course, I decided to pursue the 2-year Diploma course which I successfully completed. Drum supported my decision to study for a degree and agreed to continue paying my fees and day-release which allowed me to commence the 2-year part-time study for the BA in September 2007. I also attained my Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing (MICH) status at this time.

From a personal point of view, it was good to study in a different environment away from work. Being in Southampton it was also really enjoyable to combine study with a well earned trip to West Quay Shopping centre during the lunch breaks and after lectures!”
