Radian is committed to provide affordable housing in locations where people want to live. Last summer this was realised for local residents in the seaside town of Lymington, seeing the development of homes for affordable rent and shared ownership.
Mosbach Place offered a collection of nine shared-ownership homes of one and two bedroom flats in an idyllic location. Set in the heart of the Georgian market town, just behind the picturesque high street and within walking distance of the local train station, marinas and quay.
Lymington itself sits surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, on the southern edge of the New Forest and last year was voted Britain’s best seaside resort town.

Lymington itself sits surrounded by outstanding natural beauty, on the southern edge of the New Forest and last year was voted Britain’s best seaside resort town. Its rising popularity has seen the desirability of property increase, unfortunately forcing local people out of the market. Whilst a welcome consequence for tourism, for long term residents who have lived in Lymington most if not all of their lives, it is undeniably disappointing to be faced with the prospect of having to relocate.
Stuart Brotherton and Bonni Speake both grew up and now work in Lymington and desperately wanted to remain where their lives have always been, near family and friends. And thanks to the home ownership scheme, in September last year, they moved into their two bedroom flat in Mosbach Place.
Stuart and Bonni said, “This is an incredibly helpful scheme for people in our situation and it is made even easier by the helpful and informative people at Swaythling Housing Society.”
The New Forest District Council supported the redevelopment as they recognised the need for affordable housing. And in December 2008 the scheme was officially opened by Councillor Jill Cleary. Speaking about the development, Jill commented, “the quality of the flats is very high but the icing on the cake for me was when I was told that some of the residents that bought into the shared ownership scheme include a local boat builder, a hairdresser, a teacher and a nurse. I sincerely congratulate Swaythling Housing Society and all concerned in the regeneration of this site.”
